Super Bowl Hangover

This year’s game in Denver

You may be wondering what kinds of topics I am going to write about.  I actually have a list of some topics that I have been thinking about for awhile–some light and some deep but I also want to write about things that are currently happening and that come organically to me to write about.  So. . .even though I planned on writing about the name of my blog this week, I cannot let this week go by without talking about the Super Bowl.

First for those who do not know much about me I am a huge NFL i.e. Packer fan.  Again, looking back on my life, just like I cannot remember exactly when I stopped writing, I cannot remember when I became such a fan.  It certainly wasn’t when I was a kid.  Every Sunday my dad would have the game on but my memories are him watching the game by himself in the living room.  My brother probably watched a lot with him because he certainly knows a lot about the history of the Packers and I remember my brother wearing a lot of Packer clothes but my memories are of my dad watching alone most times.  I remember my mom stopping in and watching the game from time to time but I know I never sat down and watched an entire Packer game with my dad, which makes me a bit sad.  My dad was also a huge golfer and even though I am now also a golfer I never golfed with my dad, another thing that makes me sad.

So when did I become such a fan???  I really don’t know.  I think it is something that happened so gradually in my life that I wasn’t even recognizing it.  I know my mom who only stopped in to watch the games with my dad also became a huge Packer fan after my dad passed away.  Maybe that is where it started–us watching the games to honor my dad.  No matter how I got here, I am here–Green and Gold Forever!

I love my summer heat but when it starts to cool down and the leaves start to change colors and we begin to pull out the sweaters and our Packer gear, that is truly one of my favorite times of the year.  Everything seems fresh and like a new beginning when a new football season begins.  My husband and I are so fortunate to have season tickets to the Packers that were gifted to us by his eldest sister so we always look forward to our two weekends up in Green Bay.  Over the last five years we have started to go to one away game each season as well.  Covid and our daughter moving to LA caused us to skip two years but we are hoping every year going forward we will make a trip somewhere new to watch them.  So far we have been to Dallas, Kansas City, and Denver.

Even when the heartbreak happens as it seems to happen each year and the Packers leave the playoffs, I continue to watch all the NFL games because I have become invested in the other teams that I have watched and learned about throughout the season.  So when the last game is played in February I am always a little bit sad.  Now, it could also be the month of February in Wisconsin.  My apologies to all of you who like February.  You may have a birthday or anniversary in this month or really enjoy the expensive flowers, candy, and stuffed animals for Valentine’s Day.  I am not a fan of February, especially living in Wisconsin.  For the shortest month, it seems like the longest.  By the time February comes around, we are so sick of winter and are begging for spring, a season that seems to no longer exist in Wisconsin.  And no matter what the groundhog saw it always seems like it is not until June until we finally feel the true warmth of the sun. . .so February is just the beginning of our long wait for summer.  For sports enthusiasts like me is also the break between football and March Madness.  During February, I will watch some college and pro basketball and we will even go to a hockey game or two but I won’t get really excited about sports again until March Madness so the Super Bowl hangover is real for me.

SNL did their opening based on the football season ending a few weeks ago.  If you didn’t see it, here is the clip.  It is definitely worth the watch:  NFL Championship Sunday Cold Open-SNL

So as we close the chapter to this football season and look forward to what I believe to be a very exciting upcoming season for the Packers I would love to hear from those of you who also might be football/Packer fans.  Leave me a comment and let me know what your favorite part of this past football season was from Aaron Rodgers lasting only 3 minutes to all the Taylor Swift excitement.

My favorite part of this season was Jordan Love showing everyone that he can be the quarterback that the Green Bay Packers need.  On a side note, I knew this from the first kickoff.  Even when he was struggling, I was a believer.

Let’s hear about your favorite part of the season.

For a couple of reasons, my favorite part of the Packers season was the dominating playoff victory over the Cowboys!
First, it was awesome to watch it on a rooftop, beachside bar in Puerto Morelos the day after your birthday! Great atmosphere with Maddie, Kim, and a bunch of Packers fans we met for the first time!
Second, it was awesome because of the extra hope and optimism it gave me for the upcoming seasons. It feels like we will continue to have a solid, winning team for the foreseeable future. If things go our way and we stay healthy, maybe another Lombardi trophy too! Many teams don’t have that hope or real chance.
It’s great to be a Packers fan! We are lucky!

I agree!! That was probably my favorite game of the season–although kicking the Super Bowl Champs butt was pretty cool too!

2 of my favorite games were the Lions game on Thanksgiving and the Cowboys playoff game. Green Bay dominated both of those games from the kick off!

Win, lose or draw, I will always root for the Packers! I was a Packers fan (and a fan of the NFL) when I was a child. I remember looking forward to every Sunday in fall and winter because the Packers were playing. I watched Randy Wright, Lynn Dickey, Don Majkowski and a few others during the early years when wins were few and far between. Packers fans have been spoiled by Favre and Rodgers. Looks like we have another special quarterback in Jordan Love! Can’t wait for the 2024-25 season!
